Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 November 2026

This privacy policy explains how I, Charlie Galsworthy, trading as House by Charlie, collect and use your personal information when you visit my website, get in touch, or work with me on an interior design project. I take your privacy seriously and only use your information in the ways described here.

Who I am

House by Charlie is my interior design business. I am the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can contact me at charlie@housebycharlie.co.uk, by phone on 07876 794587, or by post at House by Charlie, High Street, Tring, Hertfordshire, HP23 5AH.

The information I collect

When you fill in my enquiry form or contact me: your name, email address, phone number, postcode, and the details you share about your home and project, such as the rooms, your budget and your preferred timings.

When you become a client: your address, information about your home (including photos, measurements and floor plans), your design preferences, and the details I need to invoice you and, if you choose my procurement service, order items on your behalf.

If you sign up for news and updates: your name and email address.

When you visit my website: basic technical information, such as your browser, device, approximate location and the pages you visit, collected through cookies (see below).

How I use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry and arrange a consultation

  • To deliver my design services, including creating drawings, mood boards and sourcing lists

  • If you choose my optional procurement service (charged separately), to order furniture and products for you through my trade accounts, which means sharing your name and delivery address with the relevant suppliers and delivery companies. You are always free to buy the items in your design yourself instead

  • To coordinate with trades or other professionals working on your project, where you have asked me to

  • To send invoices and keep financial records

  • To send you news and updates, only if you have signed up (you can unsubscribe at any time)

  • To understand how visitors use my website so I can improve it

My legal reasons for using your information

I use your information because it is needed to respond to your enquiry or carry out our contract (contract), because I have a legal obligation, for example to keep financial records for HMRC (legal obligation), because it is in my legitimate interests to run and improve my business in ways you would reasonably expect (legitimate interests), or because you have given your consent, for example to receive updates or to allow non-essential cookies (consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time.

Photos of your home

I will never share photos of your home on my website, social media or with the press without your permission. If you are happy for me to feature your finished project, I will ask you first and will not share your name, address or anything that could identify your home unless you agree.

Who I share your information with

I never sell your personal information. I only share it with trusted third parties who help me run my business, including:

  • Squarespace, which hosts my website and enquiry forms

  • My email provider

  • Suppliers and delivery companies, if you choose my procurement service

  • Trades and other professionals working on your project, with your agreement

  • My accountant, for bookkeeping and tax purposes

Some of these providers may store data outside the UK. Where this happens, they use appropriate safeguards to protect your information as required by UK data protection law.

How long I keep your information

If you make an enquiry but we do not go on to work together, I keep your details for up to two years in case you get back in touch, and then delete them. If you become a client, I keep project and financial records for six years after our work ends, as required for tax purposes. If you sign up for updates, I keep your details until you unsubscribe.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. My website uses essential cookies that it needs to work properly, and, only if you agree, analytics and performance cookies that help me understand how the site is used. My website may also show content from Instagram, which may set its own cookies.

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link on the website, or by clearing cookies in your browser settings.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you

  • Ask me to correct information that is wrong or incomplete

  • Ask me to delete your information

  • Object to, or ask me to limit, how I use your information

  • Ask me to transfer your information to someone else

  • Withdraw your consent at any time, where I rely on it

To make a request, just email me at charlie@housebycharlie.co.uk. I will respond within one month.

Making a complaint

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please contact me first and I will do my best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
